Electric Fixi
electric fixie

This is the lightest electric bicycle available in Australia. Whilst most electric bicycles weigh in excess of 27kg, this model weighs only 17.5kg, it is a slick and stylish electric bicycle that we've designed completely to be exceedingly simple, practical and robust. It is designed in Australia, uses the Panasonic tube battery and is well suited to the mini-motor or any larger power motors. It comes with a medium/large sized frame only, suitable for riders between ~ 170cm - 190cm.

The fixed gear bicycle typically has a single fixed gear, no brakes and a racing frame and component design optimised for speed and efficiency. The electric fixie takes these concepts and has urbanised some features; such as brakes and free wheel ability (flip-flop rear wheel) to create a high performance bicycle that is designed to be the perfect urban commuting vehicle. The deficits of a single gear are completely taken care of by the slick bicycle design and electric motor. Using a custom designed reinforced frame, an advanced light weight 9Ah Panasonic lithium ion battery shaped into a water bottle and a front hub motor, this is an exceptional bicycle. The bicycle is street legal with the 200W motor and has a range of approximately 40km and speed of 28km/hr with light pedalling. Upgrading to any of the larger 350 - 500W motors provides a higher top speed (30-35km/hr). The fixie electric conversion kit and fixie bicycle can be purchased online but you'll be required to assemble the components - very easy. The bike costs $600, the conversion kit $1050 and delivery Australia wide $45. Click here to read the fixie story that goes through its development and describes many parts in detail. The bicycle comes with a spare set of retro style handlebars for comfortable and stylish riding and also a small tool box with all items needed for its assembly, which takes only about 15 minutes. It's an awesome limited edition bicycle (only 50 ever made) that can be ridden either electric or non-electric. Approximate ranges and speeds of the electric fixie with light pedalling and different motor powers are:

  • 200W: 40 km range, 28km/hr top speed
  • 350W: 25 km range, 32 km/hr top speed
  • 500W: 20 km range, 35 km/hr top speed

Electric Giant Cypress
Electric Giant Cypress
The GIANT CYPRESS is our most popular model. This is because it is a very comfortable hybrid bicycle with quality running gear. The men's model is very well suited to the 200W Panasonic tube battery conversion kit and for its price it is nearly unbeatable in terms of comfort, ease of riding, quality components and speed on the road. The suspension forks, upright seating position and adjustable handlebars allow for a very smooth and controlled ride with no discomfort. This bike suits young to old riders who want quality for money and comfort with a daily commute. Range of 40km can be expected with light pedalling. Speed will be approximately 28km/h. You can get one fully setup in Perth by coming into our shop or you can get the bike from your local bicycle shop that deals GIANT models for close to $500 and get the kit from us! We can arrange assembly for pickup in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney or Hobart. Expect to pay approximately $1700 for the completely assembled model. It is only suitable for motor powers less than 350W.
Malvern Star Sprint Banner
Electric Malvern Star Sprint

The Malvern Star Sprint (2) is a very good commuter bicycle. It is a flat bar road bike with strong steel forks, making it very suitable for electric conversion. The model pictured above uses the mini-motor and 36V 9Ah Panasonic tube battery. Range is estimated to be between 35-45km. This is an ideal electric bicycle if you have a long commute on smooth road. Expect to pay approximately $1750 for this set up. It can used with motors between 200W - 500W.

Folding Electric Bicycle
Electric Giant Folding Expressway
The Giant Expressway (2) is a lightweight folding bicycle with an aluminum frame. It has 20" wheels and rides very smoothly. It can be folded to take on a train or put in a car but it is large enough to handle very well. We use a special 20" conversion kit with a seat pole mounted Samsung lithium ion battery (36V 9Ah). The electric motor has lots of torque at low speeds because of the small rim size so it will pull you up any hill. This bicycle is extremely zippy and will ride far better than any production line folding bicycle due to the light weight quality bicycle and electric components. You can get one fully setup in Perth by coming into our shop or you can get the bike from your local bicycle shop that deals GIANT models for close to $500 and get the kit from us for $1050.
Electric Boda Boda
Electric Boda Boda
The Boda Boda is a stylish cargo bicycle from YUBA. It has a very sturdy frame that will carry as much load as your legs can carry - with or without an electric conversion kit. This bicycle is proving popular for parents who want to carry their children to school or for picking up the shopping - or both at the same time. When children start to weigh more than around 5kg, it just isn't possible to use a child seat on a rear rack. The only option is then to use a trailer - and this can get quite cumbersome to steer. The Boda Boda is a great alternative, steering is much better and you'll be able to carry one or two kids on the rear seat. This bicycle works very well when converted with the Panasonic tube battery. The bicycle itself costs $1200 but you'll probably want a few accessories that will cost an extra $100-$400. You can order the bicycle and accessories directly through Cargo Cycles in Melbourne. The conversion kit will cost between $1050 - $1200 and you can get this through us. For a customised electric version, please send us an email (solbike@gmail.com) and we'll sort out what you need. We can arrange assembly for pickup in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, or Hobart; for other areas we can only send the components and you'll be required to do a few hours of assembly work.
Electric Kona Dew
Electric Kona Dew
The Kona Dew (2013) is a good choice for conversion for those wanting a slightly different but sturdy commuting bicycle. It can be made electric with conversion kits between 200W - 500W. It is essentially a flat bar road bicycle but with a little more of a mountain bicycle style frame. It is a fast bicycle that handles well and offers a comfortable riding position despite its road bike intentions. It works best with the Panasonic tube style battery, either the 9Ah one or the 11.6Ah one for an extended range. The bicycle retails for $600 at shops that sell KONA products. The electric kits are between $1050 - $1200.
Electric Apollo Trace
Electric Apollo Trace
The Apollo Trace 20 (2013) is a flat bar road bike that can be made electric with motors of between 200W - 500W. It is an urban bicycle that is made for commuting, it is designed for speed above comfort but is not uncomfortable to ride. It has disc brakes that are compatible with the conversion kits. Only slight adjustments are required to get the motor well seated between the pads. However, the disc brakes on this bicycle do not seem superior to good V-brakes - like those on the Giant Cross City. The bicycle retails for approximately $600 in most stores. The Panasonic tube style conversion kit is the best one suited to this bicycle, the Swift kit (9Ah battery) or the Super tube kit (11.6Ah) battery are both ideal.
Electric Giant Via
Electric Giant Via

You can get one fully setup in Perth by calling into our shop or you can get the bike from your local bicycle shop that deals GIANT models for close to $500 and get the kit from us! This bike can carry over 200kg but fully electric it weighs only 30kg. It's very light for a cargo cycle. Electric Giant Roam
Electric Giant Roam 2013
The Giant Roam (2013 model) is a 29er with front suspension that is excellent for electric conversion (only suitable with the mini-motor). If your commute to work involves a fair bit of stop-starting and up and down curbs or rough ground then an electric 29er is a great option. A 29er is essentially a mountain bike but with the slightly larger 700c rims, the larger rims plane out some of the bumps and work well at speed. It makes a very handy and fun electric commuting tool. The expected range with the Panasonic tube battery is 30-45km, depending on pedalling input. In total, this electric bike will cost you between $1650-$1750. The bike retails for $600, the electric kit for $1050 and assembly for $100. This model can be purchased in Perth at our shop. If you are in any other location in Australia then you can purchase the bicycle from a local bicycle shop and order the conversion kit from us. It is only suitable for motor powers less than 350W.

Electric Giant Seek

Electric Apollo Shadow
Electric Apollo Shadow

This is the electric APOLLO SHADOW. It's a really good Australian hybrid bicycle that came out in 2012 with a Nexus 7-speed internal hub gear. The 2013 model has a derailleur. The conversion kit is very well matched to this bicycle, we tried both with the rack battey and the Panasonic tube battery and the tube was obviously the best in terms of handling and light weight. You can get one fully setup in Perth by calling into our electric bike shop at 926 Hay street, Perth CBD.  or you can get the bike from your local bicycle shop that deals APOLLO models and get the kit from us! This bicycle is only suitable with the 200W or 350W mini-motor. Expect to pay approximately $1750 for the completely assembled model.

The model pictured above uses a 36V 10Ah lithium ion battery that comes in a custom designed lockable double layered rear rack and a 500W motor. The water tube style battery is also a fantastic choice for this bicycle and would be recommended if adopting the 200W mini-motor. The 500W model above offers a speed of 35km/h and a range of approximately 30km with light pedalling. The 200W model will allow a range of between 30 - 50km.
